Dr. Marc E. Agronin has been integral in the growth, development, and success of the Frank C. and Lynn Scaduto MIND Institute at Miami Jewish Health. He is a board-certified adult and geriatric psychiatrist and serves as Chief Medical Officer for MIND Institute and for the Behavioral Health discipline across the organization. He has been with Miami Jewish Health since 1999 and is the driving force behind our EmpathiCare℠ philosophy. EmpathiCare℠ is an innovative approach to delivering life-enhancing senior care by creating a deeper connection with each individual we serve.
Nowhere is this more true than at MIND Institute — a state-designated memory disorder clinic (MDC) that specializes in neurocognitive disorders including Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Agronin has pioneered a new way of thinking about aging as the next phase of a long and purposeful life. Dr. Agronin is a prolific researcher and writer, with ten books and hundreds of articles to his name. He is best known for his highly acclaimed book How We Age: A Doctor’s Journey into the Heart of Growing Old and its sequel The End of Old Age: Living a Longer, More Purposeful Life. He has been published in the New York Times and regularly writes on aging and retirement issues for the Wall Street Journal. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and philosophy from Harvard University and obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Yale School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. Agronin is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and past President of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry. He is also an Affiliate Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and has received the Excellence in Research and Education Award by LeadingAge. |
