Dr. Vivien K. Burt is a nationally recognized leader in reproductive psychiatry and women’s mental health. As Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and Founder of The Women’s Life Center at the Resnick UCLA Neuropsychiatric Hospital, she has dedicated her career to advancing the safe and effective use of psychotropic medications during pregnancy and the postpartum period.
Dr. Burt’s clinical and research work focuses on balancing maternal mental health with fetal safety, particularly in women with mood and anxiety disorders. She has authored numerous publications on the pharmacologic management of depression and bipolar disorder during pregnancy, including considerations for antidepressants, mood stabilizers, and breastfeeding safety. Her work emphasizes individualized, evidence-based treatment plans that account for both psychiatric stability and reproductive outcomes.
