About Us

About American Physician Institute

American Physician Institute (API) provides healthcare professionals with high-yield continuing medical education (CME) and career resources designed to be the most convenient and effective way to meet their needs.

Our Story

API’s origins trace back to a simple yet powerful idea: creating better preparation courses for board exam candidates. Like many physicians, founder Dr. Jack Krasuski, MD, struggled with his board exam, specifically, his Psychiatry Oral Board exam. That challenge forced him to reflect on his knowledge gaps, how he learned, and how best to prepare for exams.

After passing with a new approach, he expanded and systematized what he learned about how exams are structured, how candidates learn most effectively, and how to avoid common mistakes. He applied these principles to a range of board review courses. Since its founding in 2002, American Physician Institute has helped tens of thousands of physicians pass their ABMS board exams in 27 medical specialties and subspecialties. American Physician Institute also offers a PMHNP course for nurse practitioners.

Why We Do This Work

Medicine today demands more from physicians than ever before and under more challenging circumstances. As Dr. Jack Krasuski puts it:

“We physicians are, no doubt, often highly compensated for the work we do. But that doesn’t mean we are treated well. Increasingly over the years, it’s now common to confront patients who are rude, demanding, and even intimidating; to be working for administrators who are … well, also often rude, demanding, and at times intimidating; and, if that’s not enough, to have to keep up with the growing paperwork burden. Even the board organizations have continued to pile on more and more requirements.”

That’s why API is dedicated to empowering physicians and other healthcare professionals to have their best careers, to avoid foreseeable career and medical-legal pitfalls, to plan and deploy a work-life that’s successful, sustainable, and balanced among our various life needs.
